How to appoint new medical staff
All medical staff in accredited private medical/surgical facilities in BC must undergo an appointment process. Privileges are requested by the medical staff to the facility’s medical director.
Medical staff:
- Submit the following to the medical director:

- Review the application form and supporting documents submitted by the medical staff according to the checklist.
- If the medical staff is appointed, email the following to nhmsfap@cpsbc.ca:
Once the medical director has submitted the completed forms to the NHMSFAP, the medical staff can begin practising at the non-hospital facility at the medical director’s discretion. A response from the NHMSFAP is not required.

What is the role of the Non-Hospital Medical and Surgical Facilities Accreditation Program?
The NHMSFAP Committee use the as objective criteria within each specialty. The dictionaries outline the following requirements:
- privileges that are core and non-core for each specialty
- training and current experience requirements
The NHMSFAP also:
- maintains records of current medical staff in facilities
- provides educational support to the medical director in the process of medical staff appointment and reappointment
- ensures that the privileges granted are appropriate procedures for the facility
- performs medical staff appointment audits to ensure that the facility meets the NHMSFAP accreditation standard for the medical director
