Notification of bylaw amendments: physician assistants
The Ministry of Health has asked that the ºÚÁÏÉç advance a licensing and regulatory framework for appropriately qualified physician assistants to work under the delegation and supervision of physicians in emergency department settings in BC.
The proposed bylaw amendments:
- Set out general regulatory requirements for physician assistants including registration, application and renewal of licensure, currency of practice and continuing competency.
- Define how supervising physicians will assign, delegate, and authorize under supervision aspects of practice for physician assistants.
- Establish application and licensing fees for physician assistants.
- The registration bylaws for physician assistants are consistent with other provinces in Canada and a physician assistant must be certified as a physician assistant by either the Canadian certification process or the American certification process.
