ºÚÁÏÉç

On September 25, 2020, the ºÚÁÏÉç Board approved amendments to section 2-19 of the Bylaws under the Health Professions Act, RSBC 1996, c.183. By way of background, in May 2019, the ºÚÁÏÉç’s Bylaws related to the academic class of registration were amended with the intent to afford the Registration Committee broader discretion to grant registration in this class without requiring an applicant to obtain academic certification with the Royal ºÚÁÏÉç of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or hold a tenure position. The ºÚÁÏÉç has since received feedback from various stakeholders advising that the bylaw amendments in May 2019 did not fully eliminate language around tenure and requesting further amendments to allow greater flexibility for registration in the academic class. 

On May 28, 2021, in an effort to align the ºÚÁÏÉç Bylaws with current practices, the ºÚÁÏÉç Board approved an amendment to section 5-25 of the Bylaws under the Health Professions Act, RSBC 1996, c.183. Section 5-25 of the Bylaws sets out the responsibilities of the Diagnostic Accreditation Program Committee including to establish and monitor external proficiency programs (section 5-25(6)(d)). The Diagnostic Accreditation Program, which will be recognized as meeting the ISO 17011 requirement and will become a signatory of the Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperative (APAC) Mutual Recognition Arrangement, is prohibited from establishing or providing proficiency testing programs but will continue to monitor the programs. 

Both bylaw amendments have been posted for a three-month notification period, giving ºÚÁÏÉç registrants and other interested parties the opportunity to review and comment.
