On September 24, 2021, the ������ Board approved amendments to section 7-4 of the Bylaws under the Health Professions Act, RSBC 1996, c.183.

Physicians who hold certification with the ������ of Family Physicians of Canada are recognized as “specialists” in some jurisdictions in Canada. The proposed changes to section 7-4 of the Bylaws allow certified family physicians practising in BC to call themselves a “specialist in family medicine” or a “family medicine specialist” but not call themselves a “specialist” as this will be a term reserved for those who hold certification with the Royal ������ of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent as recognized by the Board).

The bylaw amendments have been posted for a three-month notification period, giving ������ registrants and other interested parties the opportunity to review and comment.
