Notification of Bylaw Amendments: Section 7-4
On September 24, 2021, the Board approved amendments to section 7-4 of the Bylaws under the Health Professions Act, RSBC 1996, c.183.
Physicians who hold certification with the of Family Physicians of Canada are recognized as “specialists” in some jurisdictions in Canada. The proposed changes to section 7-4 of the Bylaws allow certified family physicians practising in BC to call themselves a “specialist in family medicine” or a “family medicine specialist” but not call themselves a “specialist” as this will be a term reserved for those who hold certification with the Royal of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent as recognized by the Board).
The bylaw amendments have been posted for a three-month notification period, giving registrants and other interested parties the opportunity to review and comment.
