Notification of Bylaw Amendments: Section 7-4

On October 15, 2021, the posted a proposed revision to section 7-4, promotional activities of the bylaws made under the Health Professions Act RSBC 1996, c.183 (“HPA”). The ’s bylaw making authority is set out in section 19 (1) (k.3) and (k.4) of the HPA and provides for the recognition of registrants as specialists.

Upon conclusion of the three-month posting period, the Board met to consider the responses. Following deliberation, the Board resolved to make further amendments to the Bylaws to address public interest issues, which were identified during the posting period.

The further amendments to the Bylaws are as follows:

  • Tie the “specialist” term to the specialty or subspecialty that was achieved and recognized by the for licensing purposes (RCPSC, CFPC or equivalent);
  • Eliminate the word “special” and use the phrase “focused area of practice”; and
  • As part of general drafting amendments, revise bylaws to be gender neutral.

The revised bylaw amendment will be posted for a 60-day period, providing registrants and other interested parties the opportunity to review and comment.
